Beijing: The China badminton team announced their best possible 2017 Sudirman Cup squad on Monday, including the country’s Rio Olympic gold medalists Chen Long (men’s singles), Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan (men’s doubles), and two time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan to play in the upcoming BWF Sudirman Cup that will be held from May 21 to May 28 at the newly constructed Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre, on the Gold Coast, Australia.Team China pose on the podium during the award ceremony in the 2015 Sudirman Cup final. The lineup has a good mix of veterans such as Lin Dan, Chen Long and Fu Haifeng and young players such as Shi Yuqi. London Olympic women’s singles champion Li Xuerui was not included into the squad as she is still recovering from her knee injury.

Sudirman Cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesia player and founder of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). The first Sudirman Cup tournament took place in Central Jakarta in 1989 and was won by Indonesia.

Only 3 countries, China, Korea and Indonesia, have claimed the title of World Mixed Team champion over the last 14 championships, and China has won Sudirman Cup for 10 times.
