Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s badminton men’s doubles coach, Tan Bin Shen, is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to propel Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik to the top of the world rankings and onto the Olympic gold medal podium in Paris.
“These are our main goals for this year,” declares Tan Bin Shen.
Tan emphasizes the crucial role of meticulous preparation in achieving their ambitious targets. “We can’t guarantee victory, but the groundwork must be laid,” he says. “Aaron-Wooi Yik, currently ranked fourth in the world, need to consistently showcase their aggressive playing style, never giving their opponents an inch.”
For Tan, aggressive play combined with mental toughness is the important ingredient for victory. “Everyone wants to win,” he acknowledges, “but how we achieve it is crucial. We must always be prepared, both physically and mentally.”
He further elaborates, “In high-pressure matches, giving the opponent any space is detrimental. It can be the deciding factor between victory and defeat. Simply desiring to win isn’t enough; we need meticulous execution.”
The upcoming PETRONAS Malaysian Open serves as a crucial test for Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik’s Olympic aspirations. They open their campaign against the Danish duo, Rasmus Kjaer/Frederik Sogaard, in the first round.
Tan’s unwavering belief in his charges is palpable. “Both players and the coaching staff must stay focused,” he reiterates. “Any lapse in concentration can hand the match to our opponents.”
