Surabaya: Malaysia’s junior women’s doubles pair, Desiree Siow Hao Shan/Ti Wei Chyi pulled off one of the biggest surprise of the day on Wednesday when they defeated top seeds Putri Sari Dewi Citra/Jin Yujia of Singapore 13-21, 24-22, 21-9 to advance to the quarter-finals at the Indonesia International Challenge Badminton Tournament in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Siow/Ti will meet Indonesian pair Agatha Imanuela/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti next.
Another Malaysian women’s doubles pair, Soong Fie Cho/Tee Jing Yi had to fight some nerves as they beat Chen Si/Liu Lin of China 21-19, 22-20 in 42 minutes. They are set to meet No. 3 seeds Pitha Haningtyas Mentari/Virni Putri of Indonesia next.
Malaysia’s men’s doubles top seeds Lee Jian Yi/Lim Zhen Ting, however, suffered a hard-fought 18-21, 24-22, 12-21 loss to unseeded Indonesian pair Akbar Bintang Cahyono/Giovani Dicky Oktavan in the second round.
