Tokyo: Former World No. 1 Kento Momota fell to World No. 22 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) World rankings published on Tuesday – his lowest position since March 22, 2018. At that time, he was placed at World No. 26th when he had just returned from the illegal gambling suspension.

Tuesday’s result also made Momota the fourth-ranked player in the Japanese team after World No. 7 Kodai Naraoka, World No. 13 Kanta Tsuneyama, and World No. 14 Kenta Nishimoto.

Viktor Axelsen commented on the top spot of the men’s singles category with a total of 114,156 ranking points, followed by Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Lee Zii Jia, and Chou Tien Chen in the top 5.

Akane Yamaguchi from Japan was leading the women’s singles category. An Se Young, who just won the Indonesia Masters last week was ranked second, followed by Tai Tzu Ying, Chen Yufei, and He Bingjiao.

The top 6 in the men’s doubles world rankings were unchanged Tuesday with Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto topping the list.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan jumped to their career best when they reached World No. 5 in the women’s doubles rankings, while Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong remained at the top of the mixed doubles category.
