Kuala Lumpur: After Kento Momota’s suspension for illegal gambling was lifted by the Nippon Badminton Association on May 15, 2017, the World No. 1 men’s singles player and reigning world champion could be looking at another fine or suspension again. Japanese media reported that surveillance camera has shown World No. 1 women’s doubles player Yuki Fukushima walked out from Momota’s room at a training camp that was held in Tokyo in May.
At that time, the Japanese Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) was conducting a random doping test on female double players during the training camp, that’s when they discovered Yuki Fukushima was not in her dormitory.
“It was about early in the morning at around 6 o’clock during the training camp, JADA was conducting an unannounced doping test for Japanese women players, however, Yuki Fukushima was nowhere to be found in her room at the athlete village,” said an inspector of JADA.
“In the training camp, both Momota and Fukushima were given their own room. But, the camera footage showed Fukushima was coming out of Momota’s room.”
After the incident, the JADA has interviewed both players related to their conduct and Japanese media will sure to reveal more details about this in the coming few days.
Well, Nippon Badminton Association has to relax and calm down, this is pretty normal among athletes in other part of the world, and the last thing we want is to see Momota to be suspended again.
