Bangkok: Malaysia’s World No. 40 mixed doubles pair – Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See survived a three-setter on Wednesday, edging past World No. 35 Chang Ko-Chi/Lee Chih Chen of Taiwan 18-21, 21-19, 21-15 to enter the Thailand Masters second round.

They are set to play World No. 59 Amri Syahnawi/Winny Oktavina Kandow of Indonesia on Thursday.

The men’s singles World No. 29 Ng Tze Yong also lived up to the billing when he confirmed his progress to the round of 16th by eliminating Brazilian Ygor Coelho 21-19, 21-10 on Wednesday.

Ng will face World No. 37 Heo Kwang Hee of Korea for a ticket to the quarter-finals. The No. 8 seed Ng has a good chance of making his first quarter-final of the season after being eliminated in the second round of the 2023 Malaysia Open, the first round of the 2023 India Open, and the second round of the 2023 Indonesia Masters.

Meanwhile, Malaysia has two men’s doubles pairs cruisted into the second round. Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Low Juan Shen will meet Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Yang Ming-Tse of Taiwan in the second round, while Low Hang Yee/Ng Eng Chong who overcame the challenge of Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani from Indonesia 27-25, 21-16 on Wednesday, would face a tough task in the second round when they are scheduled to face 2022 All England champions Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana of Indonesia.
