Bangkok: After suffering early exits at Malaysia Open, India Open, and Indonesia Masters in the last three weeks, the World No. 29 Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia finally broke into his first quarter-final this season after overcoming the World No. 37 Heo Kwang Hee of Korea in the second round of the Thailand Masters on Thursday.

The eighth-seeded Ng maintained an undefeated record against Heo by beating the Korean 21-16, 21-10 in 38 minutes.

Ng will battle World No. 18 Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong on Friday for a ticket to the semi-finals.

Angus Ng Ka Long progressed to the quarter-finals after defeating Malaysia’s World No. 44 Cheam June Wei 21-9, 12-21, 21-9.

Meanwhile, luck was not on the side of Malaysia’s two professional mixed doubles pairs, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai and Chan Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See when they lost their respective second-round matches on Wednesday.

Goh/Lai went down to the hands of the World No. 25 Japanese pair, Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Saito 15-21, 10-21 while Chan/Cheah were shown their way out by World No. 59 Indonesian pair, Amri Syahnawi/Winny Oktavina Kandow 19-21, 15 -21.
