Ho Chi Minh: Malaysia suffered a 0-3 drubbing at the hands of China in the quarter-finals of 2017 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships on Friday.
Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai started the proceedings for Malaysia in the quarter-finals. The duo learned an important lesson in loss to the two best mixed doubles players in the world Zhang Nan/Chen Qingchen of China, going down 14-21, 9-21 in 28 minutes.
With Malaysia lagging 0-1, World No. 172 Lim Chi Wing took the court against the World No.12 Shi Yuqi of China. As expected, Lim didn’t stand a chance against the Chinese player as he was swept past by Shi 7-21, 14-21.
Surprisingly, Malaysia’s World No. 48 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin manage to give World No. 6 Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen of China a run for their money, putting up a spirited fight before bowing out 21-19, 20-22, 10-21 in 49 minutes.
With the victory, China is set to take on Japan in the semi-final while Thailand will meet Korea in another semi-final clash on Saturday.
