Lubin: Denmark won their first three matches against Sweden to complete the European mixed team championships quarter-finals victory on Friday.
Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen claimed the first point for Denmark when they notched up a 21-13, 21-12 win over Nico Ruponen/Amanda Hogstrom in the mixed doubles match.
World No. 3 men’s singles player Viktor Axelsen cemented Denmark’s advantage with a world-class form by breaking his opponent from Sweden – Henri Hurskainen in straight-set, winning 21-11, 21-14 in only 35 minutes.
Denmark’s World No. 23 women’s singles player Line Kjaersfeldt who has not been in the best of form at the tournament, lost her first set to Sweden’s Emma Karlsson 19-21. Nevertheless, Kjaersfeldt wrapped up the winning point for Denmark after Karlsson retired from the match while she was trailing 1-10 in the second set.
Denmark will face-off against Germany in the semi-final on Saturday, while Russia will clash with England in other semi-final.
