Kuching: Other than water leaks that caused by a heavy downpour, things seemed to go relatively smoothly inside Stadium Perpaduan Kuching on Wednesday.

In the first round of 2015 Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Masters, 27-year-old Malaysian shuttler Chong Wei Feng was bursting with confidence, fought back from one set down to fly past Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro 14-21, 21-15, 21-16 in 61 minutes.Chong Wei Feng needs to step up in absence of Lee Chong Wei

 

Later in the day, Daren Liew of Malaysia exacted revenge over sixth seed Takuma Ueda 21-18, 21-15 for his Thomas Cup final defeat to make a winning start to his campaign at the Malaysia Masters in Kuching

Chong Wei Feng will play compatriot Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif while Daren Liew faces reigning Malaysian champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli on Thursday.
Soong Joo Ven,  Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Woon Kok Hong, Goh Soon Huat, Tan Kian Meng and  Soo Teck Zhi were other Malaysian men’s singles that cruised to the second round.

In men’s doubles, Tan Boon Heong/Hoon Thien How, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah/Ow Yao Han, Low Juan Shen/Ong Yew Sin, Chooi Kah Ming/Teo Kok Siang all advanced to the second round.

Reigning Commonwealth Games women’s doubles champions Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei were forced to dig deep in their first set before knocking out Indonesian Anggia Shitta Awanda/Mahadewi Istirani Ni Ketut 22-20, 21-12 in 34 minutes.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing will make their first appearance on Thursday against Markis Kido/Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth of Indonesia.
