Kuala Lumpur: The Kepong BC was taking full advantage of having Chong Wei Feng and Tan Boon Heong returned to its lineup after both players helped qualified Malaysia for the Axiata Cup semi-finals in Jakarta two days ago.
However, it was a teenager who stole the limelight from Chong Wei Feng at the first men’s singles match. 17 year-old Penang-born Loh Kean Yew of Singapore who almost defeated Daren Liew in the Axiata Cup tie between Malaysia and Singapore, showed he has a promising future ahead when he stretched Chong Wei Feng of Kepong BC to decider before he was shown the door by Wei Feng who rallied for a 10-11, 11-9, 11-3,8-11,11-5 victory.
Yang Li Lian, Chin Chuan Jue/Nur Azriyn Ayup earned 6 more points for Kepong after sailed through their opponents respectively.
In the mixed doubles event, co-team owner Tan Boon Heong and Lim Yin Loo got through without lifting a racquet when they were granted a walkover. Goh Soon Huat extended the lead for Kepong BC to 15-4 with his win in the second men’s singles match.
Kepong BC’s only defeat came from Chua Khek Wei/Ow Yao Han by losing to Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Yong Zhao Ashton Chen of Bangsar Hawks BC 1-3 in the second men’s doubles match.
Played with good deception shots and smashes, Nguyen Tien Minh gave Petaling Jaya BC a good start against Tan Jia Wei of Serdang BC by winning 11-4, 11-2, 11-6 in 22 minutes. Petaling Jaya BC finished the tie with 15-7 win.
