Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei gave a special shoutout to his wife – Wong Mew Choo on Valentine’s Day.
The former World No. 1 posted several throwback photos of himself and his wife, playing badminton together and taking care of their kids when they were younger.
“When @wong_mew_choo was pregnant with @kingstonleekc , I was very much still active playing badminton. I still tried to accompy MewChoo for her regular checks. For most of the visits, I was no more than a ‘pasu bunga’ in the doctor’s room with MewChoo going through the checks and scans.
The more visits I went, the more I believe my wife is a superwoman. She had to check her diet. She had to change her lifestyle. She had to make sure baby grew well in the womb. Tambah lagi she had to soak in all the advices from friends and relatives, yang sometimes made sense and sometimes didn’t at all. She did it all by her own!
Then a week before her scheduled caeserian delivery. The ‘pasu bunga’ asked this by our obstetrician, “ChongWei, are you ready? You know you need to cut the umbilical cord kan? Can you do it?”
I murmured to myself, “How dare he look down at me when I cut badminton broken strings so many million times in my life? Potong saja ape Susah.”
Confidently I replied “Of course! Consider it done doctor! “.
Then the real day came. Kingston finally arrived. I was amazed by the sacrifice MewChoo did in the operation room. She must have loved me a lot. I must be very handsome for her to love me this much. Kingston cried, thank God. Then Dr called,’ ChongWei, apa lagi? Potong. ”
The moment I held the scissor, I went jelly terus. Total jelly. I just need to cut, to mark the arrival of my baby. I looked at my wife. I can’t do it, susah drpd playing badminton leh. Ya, I can’t even hold a scissor yet she can hold a baby so steadily for 9 months in her body. Salute.
I would like to take this chance to tell my wife how much she means to me and my family. Without her, there won’t be me and my two boys. Happy Valentine’s Day. 🌹
Sidenote: Yesterday semasa kemas beg Kingston , dia kata “Papa, esok cuti sekolah?” Saya Tanya kenapa. Dia jawab “Melayu Raya cuti , Cina Raya cuti , India Raya cuti, pekerja Raya cuti, takkan kekasih Raya tak cuti?” Memang tunggu lempang je budak ni.
Of course, Lee wasn’t the only one celebrating Valentine’s Day. Wong Mew Choo also shared a romantic message and posted a photo of her and Lee Chong Wei on Instagram.
“李先生 @leechongweiofficial 情人节快乐,我想,人生最大的幸福,是你爱的人恰好也爱著你,而且没有错过。一起牵手看着两个小瓜长大,是我觉得最浪漫的情话,爱你 happy Valentine’s Day ❤️”
