Esbjerg: The World No. 3 Anders Antonsen defeated the co-host to his YouTube channel, the World No. 22 Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus in the 2022 Denmark National Championships men’s singles final that was held at the Blue Water Dock in Esbjerg, last Saturday.

That was Antonsen’s fourth Denmark national title, and he was able to achieve that this year without dropping a set.

“Of course, I’m happy about it and it’s really cool to win for the fourth time. It was a good match, and Hans fought bravely as usual,” said Antonsen.

Antonsen overcame Vittinghus in straight games 21-12, 21-11 in the final.

For Vittinghus, this was his fifth runner-up at the Denmark nationals.

In the women’s singles final, World No. 22 Line Christophersen won her third Danish nationals in a row on Saturday, beating World No. 32 Line Kjærsfeldt 16-21, 21-19, 21-14.

“It means a lot and it’s a huge relief to win the title for the third time,” said Christophersen.

Line Kjærsfeldt on the other hand, was very close to winning her fourth Denmark nationals, as she was off to a good start by winning the first game in the final.

Same as Anders Antonsen, the World No. 10 Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen also won their fourth title at the tournament.

“We made a deal last year to see how many times we can win the trophy before the end of our careers. So it means a lot to get our name on the trophy again,” said Kim Astrup.

“I didn’t serve well in the beginning. We made some adjustments and then Kim also had some good serves which scored some points for us,” said Rasmussen.

They saw off second seeds Frederik Søgaard and Daniel Lundgaard 18-21, 21-12, 21-14 in the final.

There were some slight upsets in both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles finals as the second seeds managed to outlast the top seeds in both categories.

Amalie Magelund/Freja Ravn beat Sara Lundgaard/Claudia Paredes in the women’s doubles final 21-8, 21-15; while Mathias Thyrri/Amalie Magelund beat Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje 21-18, 22-20 in the mixed doubles final.
