Kuala Lumpur: While the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Mohamad Norza Zakaria has confirmed that Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying and Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong who have recently left the organization were no longer listed in the tiering system of the National Sports Council (NSC), Chan/Goh were hoping NSC would reconsider their reinstatement as part of the program aimed at providing financial incentive while nurturing Olympic medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying who were playing at the Thailand Masters, spoke to Malaysian media on Monday after their 21-16, 21-10 first round victory against the host players, Tinn Isriyanet/Chasinee Korepap.

“We are excited to claim our first win as professional players. On the other hand, it’s rather disappointing to find out that we are not being listed in the tiering system of NSC,” said Chan.

“I think we need it more than before because we are now professional players, and we have limited resources,” added Chan.

Nevertheless, Chan revealed that they have landed a two-year sponsorship from badminton equipment manufacturer – Li-Ning.

“We are grateful for the two-year sponsorship from Li-Ning. Another of our main sponsor is Daikin. We are also in the process of looking for more sponsors while striving to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games,” replied Chan.

The World No. 6 pair will face the winners between Thai qualifiers Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran and Russia’s Rodion Alimov-Alina Davletova on Thursday in the second round.
