Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s Rio Olympics mixed doubles silver medalist Goh Liu Ying said that starting up a badminton academy in China is something she would like to pursue after retirement.

The 30-year-old explained that she and her former teammate Lim Yin Loo planned to set up their own badminton academy in Dongguan, China.

Both Goh and Lim played together in women’s doubles between 2010 and 2013, and they have established good friendship off the court as well.

“My best friend, Yin Loo has been a coach in Dongguan for nearly two years, and she is doing pretty well over there,” said Goh.

“Therefore, we are planning to open a badminton academy in China,” added Goh.

“That’s something I would like to do after I retired from badminton. Well, we may start the plan a little earlier even before my retirement, but I would have to rely on Yin Loo to get it started,” explained Goh.

“Of course, we also have plans to open a badminton academy in Malaysia as well.”

“I really love badminton, and I don’t mind becoming a coach so that I can give back to the sport.”
