Odense: In a dramatic turn of events at the Denmark Open semifinals, world number 12 PV Sindhu and world number 6 Carolina Marin, who have previously expressed mutual respect, were at loggerheads on the court.

Initially, both players were asked by the umpire to moderate their celebrations after scoring. Marin, however, continued to let out screams of triumph, while Sindhu received two warnings for delaying her readiness to receive serves.

Following her first-game win with a score of 21-18, Marin was issued two warnings for her exuberant celebrations. In the deciding game, the umpire urged Sindhu to prepare for the serve promptly, to which she retorted, “You let her yell; ask her first, and then I’ll be ready.”

The tension escalated when, at 9-2 in the deciding game with Marin in the lead, the shuttlecock landed on Sindhu’s side of the court. Both players approached to retrieve it, resulting in a verbal clash. The chair umpire intervened, issuing yellow cards to both players and instructing Marin to refrain from collecting the shuttlecock from Sindhu’s side.

Witness the heated exchange between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin that culminated in their yellow cards:

Ultimately, Marin triumphed with scores of 21-18, 19-21, 21-7, advancing to the finals where she will face China’s Chen Yufei.

In the mixed doubles final, teammates Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong will clash with Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping, recreating last year’s Denmark Open final, where Zheng/Huang emerged victorious with scores of 21-19, 20-22, 21-19.

In the women’s doubles semifinals, world champions Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan overcame Rin Iwanaga/Kie Nakanishi of Japan with scores of 21-10, 21-18. They will face another Japanese duo, Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida, in the final.
