Ibiza: Two-time world champion Carolina Marin said she is looking forward to continuing her badminton success at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Ibiza, Carolina Marin said she has always wanted to fulfill her childhood dream of bagging a gold medal at the highest level of badminton such as the World Championships and the Olympics.
“My goals are very clear, I always wanted to be number one in whatever I do. Become number one in the world ranking, win the world champion, European champion and of course, win a gold medal at the Olympics. Both my team and I are very clear of my goals, that’s why together we are working very hard to achieve those goals,” said Carolina Marin.
Marin revealed that she is trying to stay within the top 5 women’s singles in the world during the Olympic qualifying period (from 4 May 2015 to 1 May 2016) for the Rio Olympics. She will take a break from all tournament after the Olympics qualifying period ended to fine-tune her badminton techniques and maximize her efficiency.
When asked about how she managed to win her second consecutive world championships title in Jakarta last week, she told reporters that she was not in Jakarta to defend her world title, but she was there to conquer other players.
“I’m an ambition-driven person, and I always wanted to be the best in the sport of badminton,” added Marin.
Marin will resume her training with the Spain national team on Thursday in preparation for the Japan Open Superseries that will be held from September 8, 2015 to September 13, 2015.
