Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 11 men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin who suffered two consecutive first-round losses at both the Malaysian Open and the Indian Open in the last two weeks have reportedly agreed to part ways.
According to Malaysian media, the decision was made after both players held a meeting with the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) Doubles Coaching Director, Rexy Mainaky Wednesday afternoon.
Mainaky said that both of them made that decision after their relationship was getting worse and each of them wanted something better for them.
Even so, Rexy said, the decision cannot be finalized yet as the final decision has to be made by the coaching staff.
“There is no decision yet on whether they will be separated or stay because I have to wait for all the other coaches to return from the Indonesia Masters. We will discuss it before making a decision,” said Mainaky.
Goh/Izzuddin opened the 2022 season with a bang when they won the German Open title. But after that, they have failed to show the consistency needed to stay at the top of world rankings. Nevertheless, Izzuddin ended the year 2022 on a high note when he partnered with Muhammad Haikal to win the 2022 Malaysia International Challenge on Dec 18, 2022.
