Singapore: The Doubles Coaching Director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) – Rexy Mainaky was unhappy when all BAM men’s doubles pairs were eliminated in the second round of the 2022 Singapore Open.
Mainaky said that the players did not seem to learn from their previous defeats as each of them repeated the same mistakes including the World No. 12 Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin who were expected to produce a strong performance in Singapore.
“I’m disappointed. The same thing, the same performances keep being repeated by our players,” said Mainaky.
“When Izzuddin and Sze Fei were defeated by M. R Arjun/Dharuv Kapila of India, they told me they lost because of fatigue, that was completely unacceptable,” continued Mainaky.
“We had high hopes for them but they lost to the Indian pair. When they said they were tired, that’s just a silly excuse,” added Mainaky.
“They lost in the first round of the Malaysia Masters last Tuesday. They have plenty of time to rest before the Singapore Open. How tired can they be?”
Apart from Goh/Izzuddin, two other BAM men’s doubles pairs were also knocked out in the second round, including Arif Junaidi/Mohd Haikal Nazri who lost to Singapore’s Terry Hee Yong Kai/Loh Kean Hean while Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun went down to Indonesia’s Mohammad Ashan/Hendra Setiawan.
Two other Malaysian professional men’s pairs, Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin and Goh V Shem/Low Juan Shen also suffered second-round exits.
