Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian badminton legend who was diagnosed with early stage nose cancer, and has been receiving treatment in Taiwan with his wife Wong Mew Choo and two sons since July, is set to return to Malaysia this Sunday.
The three-time Olympic silver medalist was reportedly able to make a full recovery after receiving treatment in a private hospital in Taiwan. According to our source, all his cancer cells were destroyed and he has been cleared to go home.
Originally, Lee was planning to go back to Malaysia by the end of September, but his doctor advised him to rest for a longer period of time before flying home.
If Lee arrives in Malaysia on Oct 7, he makes it just in time to celebrate his 36th birthday on October 21st.
Lee was forced to withdraw from the 2018 World Championships in Nanjing, China, and the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia after being diagnosed with a respiratory-related disorder two months ago.

The president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Mohamad Norza Zakaria clarified on Friday afternoon that Lee would still remain in Taiwan and will be monitored by his doctors before allowing him to return to Malaysia.
“I’ve talked to Datuk Lee Chong Wei on Wednesday and he said he had yet planning to come back on Sunday, therefore, the media reports were not true,” said Zakaria.
Zakaria stressed that although Lee is recovering but he still need more rest in order to recuperate from the cancer treatment.
