Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s men’s singles head coach Misbun Sidek believed if the Malaysian shuttlers could play their best, they would be able to win a medal in the Asian Games that scheduled to be held from August 18 to September 2,2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
The conclusion was drawn after his players showed high commitment when preparing for the Asian Games despite having to start training as early as 6am.
“Players are clear about their responsibilities in the Asian Games. I am satisfied with the commitment they have shown during the training in preparation for the Asian Games.”
“Even though they have to start training as early as 6am every day, they could withstand the burden and pressure given. Seeing their commitment in training, I believe they could play well in Asian Games.”
“If they give their best in every match, I am sure good results or medals will come,” said Sidek when talking to Malaysian media after a training session at the Malaysian Badminton Academy on Tuesday.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has listed four men’s singles players, Lee Zii Jia, Leong Jun Hao, Soong Joo Ven and Daren Liew to the team event. Both Liew and Lee would also participate in the individual event.
Liew was chosen for the Malaysian squad to replace Lee Chong Wei who was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to health problems.
“Despite training for almost three hours with high intensity, Daren could still survive. Although he rarely plays as the first men’s singles but what I see was good preparation and hopefully he could keep up the high spirit,” added Sidek.
