Jakarta: The high performance director of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) and the 1992 Barcelona Olympic women’s singles gold medal winner Susi Susanti has high hope for the current World No. 1 men’s doubles pair, Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia to win the Asian Games gold medal.

Nicknamed ‘the Minions’ by their fans, after the little yellow creatures from a 2015 animated movie, Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo hoped to stand tall and win gold for hosts Indonesia.

With the height of 168cm, 27-year-old Marcus Fernaldi Gideon is two centimeters shorter than Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

“They are not tall, but they are strong,” said Susi Susanti.

“With the right strategy and agility, they can defeat their much taller opponents,” added Susanti.

“If they can maintain their focus, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo are able to win gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.”

The Asian Games badminton tournament will be held from 19 August to 28 August, at Istora Senayan.
