Seoul: 35-year-old former World No. 1 men’s doubles player Jung Jae-sung has passed away due to cardiac arrest at his home in the morning of March 9.
According to Korean media, Jung showed no warning signs before his sudden death. His wife called the emergency service immediately when she noticed Jung was unconscious Friday morning, however, it was too late, and Jung has passed away.
Jung started his partnership with the legendary Korean men’s doubles player Lee Yong-Dae by winning the 2006 Thailand Open. He and Lee then went on to win 18 Super Series titles, two silvers and one bronze at World Championships, and one gold at Asian Championships.
The Korean men’s doubles badminton ace officially retired from badminton after he and Lee won the men’s doubles bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Jung’s death was a great lost to the sport of badminton, especially the Korean badminton community. He was a brilliant men’s doubles player. May his soul rest in peace, and may God bless his family.
