Hwaseong: Immediately after the news of the 2012 Olympic badminton bronze medalist Jung Jae-Sung (also Chung Jae-Sung) who passed away in the living room of his home in Hwaseong at 8.12am on Friday at age 35 has hit the internet, the stunned badminton community around the world had set off an instant emotional outpouring of grief and remembrance.
According to the Korean police, they told reporters that Jung was diagnosed with arrhythmia after a medical checkup three years ago, and his family had said Jung occasionally complained about chest pains especially when he was under stress. The police said a cause of death has not yet been determined and is awaiting for the Korean National Forensic Service to conduct an autopsy.
The former world No. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei has offered his condolences to Jung on his social media page.
Malaysia’s former World No. 1 men’s doubles pair Tan Boon Heong also told Malaysian media that although Jung was not a tall player, but he had a powerful smash.
“I am stunned and sorry to hear the news this afternoon. He was highly respected in the sport of badminton.”
Some of the current and former badminton superstars such as Fu Haifeng, Cai Yun, Mathias Boe, Zhang Nan, Tian Qing, and Bao Chunlai have all posted their condolence messages on their social media page.
