Highlights of Tai Tzu Ying vs. Carolina Marin in the final of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals:

Tai Tzu Ying’s win gave her a slight career head to head lead agains Marin with 12 wins and 11 losses in a total of 23 meetings between the two players. This victory marked her fourth consecutive title at the year-end event, while Marin faced disappointment, unable to secure the championship for the first time since 2017.

At a post game interview, Tai acknowledged her strong performance in the first half of the year but expressed dissatisfaction with the latter part of 2023. She cited subpar results in key events like the Asian Games and World Championships, coupled with injuries in the later period.

Addressing today’s final, where she made a comeback from being one game down, Tai credited the enthusiastic support of the fans in the stadium. She emphasized the impact of the crowd’s encouragement, stating, “When I was trailing in the second game, the entire audience continued to cheer loudly. I felt a responsibility to work hard and not disappoint everyone, so I tossed my racket into the stands as a gesture to the fans after my victory.”

Tai Tzu Ying clarified that in the second and third games, she had to master some elaborate shots to secure points. She underscored the importance of dictating the pace against a formidable opponent, ensuring she didn’t allow the opponent to control the rhythm of the match.

Additionally, on Sunday, the women’s doubles title was secured by the Chinese pair Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan, while the mixed doubles title went to Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong.
