Paris: Lee Zii Jia, who finished second in last week’s Denmark Open final, defeated the Denmark Open champion Weng Hongyang 21-15, 21-11, avenging his defeat to Weng four days ago.

Lee’s opponent in the second round is China’s Asian Games men’s singles champion Li Shifeng. The No. 8 seed Li defeated compatriot Zhao Junpeng 21-15, 21-15 on Tuesday.
For Ng Tze Yong, he outlasted Dutch player Mark Caljouw in straight games 21-9, 21-9, while Denmark’s top seed Viktor Axelsen withdrew after losing the first game 17-21 to Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long. Ng Tze Yong will play French player Arnaud Merkle and Ng Ka Long will take on Loh Kean Yew next.
In men’s doubles, the Malaysian men’s doubles pair of Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun were stopped in the first round, going down to Rasmus Kjær/Frederik Søgaard of Denmark 21-18, 18-21, 15-21.
In another men’s doubles first-round result, Japan’s former world champions Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi narrowly defeated Tokyo Olympic champions Li Yang/Wang Chi-lin of Chinese Taipei in the men’s doubles 21-17, 17-21, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles, two Malaysian pairs, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, as well as Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai broke into the second round.
Chen/Toh will meet Reginald Lee Chun Hei/Ng Tsz Yau of Hong Kong and Goh/Lai will also meet Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet who are also from Hong Kong on Thursday.
