Taipei: Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei has ascended to the elite ranks of players, joining the likes of Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan, and Chen Long, after securing his fourth HYLO Open title last Sunday in a match against Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong.
Chou has now claimed an impressive ten Super 300 series titles in his career, solidifying his status as the most successful men’s singles player in the history of the BWF Super 300 series. He has reached a total of 17 finals, emerging victorious in ten of them. This achievement surpasses South Korean player Lee Hyun-il’s record of 15 finals and nine titles, as well as the remarkable accomplishments of Chinese legend Lin Dan, who reached 11 finals and won nine titles, and Malaysian legend Lee Chong Wei, who made it to 10 finals and secured nine crowns.
Notably, Chou Tien Chen has also etched his name in history by winning four titles in both the HYLO Open (formerly known as Bitburger Open) and the Taipei Open. He becomes only the fourth player in the annals of badminton to achieve this feat in two different BWF tournaments, joining the exclusive company of Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan, and Chen Long.
In an interview with BWF following his triumph in the fourth HYLO Open, Chou expressed his determination to claim yet another HYLO Open title after losing in the final to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in 2022. He stated to BWF, “After losing in the final last year, I really wanted to come back and make history. I am very happy that I did it.”
Notably, another player who achieved the same feat of winning four HYLO Open titles is women’s singles player Xu Huaiwen from China, who accomplished four consecutive championships from 2003 to 2006.
