Birmingham: After finding mixed results on Wednesday, the Malaysian camp ended Thursday by pulling off some big upsets at the 2016 All England championships.
Former World No. 1 pair and current World No. 17 Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong produced a stunning display to secure a quarter-final berth by defeating second seeds Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 21-15, 15-21, 21-17.
Their compatriots, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong also followed in the footsteps of Koo/Tan by claiming an impressive win against China’s No. 5 seeds Chai Biao-Hong Wei 17-21, 24-22, 23-21 in 73 minutes.
Despite the good news, these two pairs who are in the hunt for a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August are going to face each other in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Koo/Tan are no stranger to All England because they’ve won the tournament in 2007 while Goh/Tan have never won in this prestigious tournament.
