Wuhan: Lin Dan and Chen Long both eased into the quarter-finals of the 2015 Dong Feng Citroen Badminton Asia Championships with straight-set victories on Thursday.
Second seed Lin Dan barely broke sweat as he saw off Farzin Khanjani of Iran 21-9, 21-7 in under 21 minutes.
Chen Long also progressed with little fuss in Wuhan, taking just 31 minutes to beat Ratnajit Tamang of Nepal 21-7,21-15.
The biggest upset from Thursday’s games came in the women’s singles category, where third seed Wang Shixian of China was defeated by Bae Yeon Ju of Korea 20-22, 11-21 in a hard-fought match that lasted 50 minutes.
Malaysia’s men’s singles player Chong Wei Feng emerged victorious from an easy match over Artyom Savatyugin of Uzbekistan. Chong won by 21-6, 21-9 in 22 minutes. Chong will clash with Tian Houwei of China in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, women’s doubles pair of Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei from Malaysia got an easy ride to the quarter-finals after they were granted a walkover by Aktar Shapla and Alina Sultana of Bangladesh. Vivian Hoo/Woon Keh Wei will take on Ma Jin/Tang Yuanting of China on Friday. However, Malaysia’s top women’s singles player Tee Jing Yi 8-21, 11-21 was knocked out of the tournament by fourth seed Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea in the third round.
