Kuala Lumpur: Chong Wei Feng of Kepong BC rallied from a set down to beat Muhammad Shawal Mohd Ismail 3-1 in the first men’s singles match between Kepong BC and Ampang Jaya BC on Thursday.
Chong Wei Feng committed a lot of unforced errors in the first set and fell 4-11 to Muhammad Shawal Mohd Ismail. When trailing 4-8, Wei Feng found his rhythm and fought back to level the game at 9-9 and went on to win the second set 11-9. Wei Feng ultimately won the third and fourth game to hand Kepong a 3-1 lead.
In the battle of two Yangs – Yang Pei Ji who came from Guangxi, China edged Yang Li Lian of Kepong BC 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4 to level the tie at 4-4.
In the first men’s doubles match that followed, Tan Boon Heong and Ow Yao Han were firing on all cylinders to down Kuan Kam Chung/Tay Ken Yew of Ampang Jaya in just 21 minutes.
Even though Kepong lost the second men’s singles match when Ai Wei Jian was sent packing by Hong Kong player Wong Wing Ki of Ampang Jaya; led by Andrei Adistia/Mei Qili and Chin Chuan Jue/Soo Kar Seong in mixed doubles and second men’s doubles, Kepong ended the afternoon with a 14-9 finish over Ampang Jaya.
In another tie between Puchong United BC and Nusajaya BC that was held at 7pm on Thursday, Daren Liew led Puchong United to whitewash Nusajaya at 18-6 by winning all matches.
Following that victory, Puchong United followed close behind Muar City to hang on at the number two spot in Purple League rankings.
