Kuala Lumpur: Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia who recorded a total of 348 weeks as World No. 1, and 6 consecutive years as year-end World No. 1 (2008-2013), together with Lin Dan of China, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, have been elected to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame for 2023.

Both badminton legends will be formally inducted by BWF at a ceremony on May 26, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

BWF President Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen praised both players for their impact on the sport and said they will be remembered for more than their achievements and success in badminton.

“Chong Wei and Lin are among the foremost ambassadors of the sport of badminton over the past two decades. With their outstanding performances, they have attracted fans from all over the world to the sport,” said Larsen.

“Both of them deserve to be in the Hall of Fame,” added Larsen.

Below is the official message from BWF:

“Badminton legends Lin Dan (China) and Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) have been elected to the BWF Hall of Fame for 2023.

They will be inducted at a ceremony on Friday 26 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia.

The pair were the most dominant men’s singles players of their generation.

Having begun their senior international career in the early 2000s, Lee and Lin went on to stamp their presence on the game until their retirements in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

A measure of their dominance is that between them, they contested a total of five Olympic and 10 BWF World Championships finals.

Lee and Lin set several records during the course of their long careers. Lee finished with 47 BWF Superseries/World Tour titles and was world No.1 for an amazing 349 weeks.

Lin was unrivalled when it came to the Major Championships, with two Olympic and five World Championships titles.

They were also vital to their countries’ fortunes at the team championships.”

With the Badminton Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony scheduled to take place on May 26, 2023, in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I am sure badminton fans are eagerly waiting to see if these two legends could attend the Induction Ceremony together and show their love to the fans and also the sport of badminton.
