Kuala Lumpur: Congratulations!! Malaysia’s badminton queen, Goh Liu Ying, shared an exciting news with fans on social media Tuesday. She announced that she and her boyfriend were getting hitched, sparking a flood of congratulatory messages on social media, and she is also pregnant.
Goh who won the mixed doubles silver medal partnering Chan Peng Soon in the 2016 Rio Olympics, said that she felt lucky that she met the right person at the right time and hoped her fans will support her as she enters this new phase of her life.
She also said that marriage will not affect her career and that she will try to balance their personal and professional life.
Goh revealed the good news of her pregnancy through the Facebook post below:
The 33-year-old told Malaysian media that she did not disclose her relationship status in the past, hoping that the public would focus mainly on her career, and marriage has always been in her life planning. She also emphasized that marriage is not the reason for her retirement from the sport.
Goh said that her husband is a low-key businessman, whom she has been in a stable relationship with since she was still a professional badminton player.
“I am very happy to share this good news with you, and I sincerely thank all the blessings,” said Goh.
In January 2023, Goh officially retired from badminton after completing the last match of her 15-year professional career at the Malaysia Open Super 1000.
Although she’s no longer competing professionally, she still actively promoting the sport of badminton and launched the “GLY 3V3 Tournament”.
