Kuala Lumpur: Will Lee Zii Jia return to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) after leaving the association on Jan 21, 2022?
Well, everything is possible when Malaysia’s Road to Gold (RTG) team has been making efforts to bring the men’s singles World No. 4 back under the umbrella of BAM.
The situation was getting interesting when both Lee Zii Jia and the president of BAM, Mohamad Norza Zakaria met each other at a restaurant unexpectedly.
Zakaria uploaded a picture of him and Lee on his Instagram stories two days ago and said he met Lee unplanned at a restaurant.
When asked by Malaysian media, Zakaria refused to comment on whether Lee would return to BAM.
“At the moment there is no comment, as far as meeting Zii Jia, it was coincidental, not planned. I also want to wait for the results of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, who wants to meet Zii Jia,” said Zakaria.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Norza, who is also the President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM), confirmed that the official meeting with Lee will be held through the RTG program which will be chaired by Yeoh and himself.
“We will see what Zii Jia needs,” clarified Zakaria.
Getting Lee Zii Jia to join the (RTG) program would enable him to get all the necessary help and support in his mission to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and possibly hunt for the gold medal in the Olympics.
RTG will focus on preparation programs including daily training, coaching and staff support, sports science, and medical services in order to nurture a gold medal winner at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
