Kuala Lumpur: Lee Chong Wei’s wax figure was first unveiled at Madame Tussauds Singapore on 13 Oct 2022 and it made a temporary stop in Kuala Lumpur on March 3, 2023, before permanently moving to Hong Kong. During its debut in Malaysia, Lee’s “twin” new hairstyle was styled up and swept cleanly away from the forehead making him look like a handsome rock star.

The wax figure will depart Malaysia on Saturday for Hong Kong and will be available for public visitation at the Madame Tussauds museum in Hong Kong starting Mar 18.

Lee Chong Wei who attended the ceremony introducing the wax figure in Malaysia on Friday was emotional and showed his appreciation to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), where he had spent his 19-year of illustrious badminton career with the association.

“I spent a total of 19 years in BAM. My career was like a roller coaster and they were there with me along the way, from when I was nothing until I got something,” said Lee.

“When I was facing doping charges and couldn’t compete at international tournaments, my ranking fell to World No. 182. But with BAM and everyone’s support, I returned to World No. 1 in just 11 months,” added Lee.

After the World Badminton Federation doping panel was convinced that Lee’s incident was not a case of doping with intent to cheat and gave him green light to start competing, Lee had to start playing at lower-level tournaments and he had to compete in USA and Canada to start collecting ranking points in order to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

The figure was dressed in Lee’s official jersey from his final Olympics performance in Rio 2016.
