Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s reigning men’s doubles World Champions – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik achieved their career-high ranking by surging one spot to World No. 2 at the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings published on Tuesday with a total of 84518 ranking points.
The pairing of Nur Izzuddin/Goh Sze Fei, who were eliminated in the first round of both the Malaysia Open and the Indin Open, dropped out of the top 10 to rank 11th while Malaysia’s independent pair, Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi went down a place to ninth in the world.
Indonesia’s Fajar Alfan/Muhamad Rian Ardianto are still the men’s doubles World No. 1 with total ranking points of 92855.
In men’s singles, Lee Zii Jia who suffer a second-round loss to Li Shi Feng of China in last week’s India Open and went down to Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the first round of the Malaysia Open two weeks ago, fell two places to become World No. 4.
Two Indonesian players – Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie have overtaken Lee to rank World No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
In the mixed doubles event, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei’s ranking continues to rise and they are now ranked 57th in the world. They managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open before being stranded in the second round of the Indian Open.
Another young Malaysian mixed doubles pair – Hoo Pang Ron/Teoh Mei Xing also improved their position sharply by shooting up 16 places to World No. 73.
