Fuzhou: World No. 6 mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying of Malaysia overcame Robin Tabeling/Selena Piek of Netherlands 21-18, 21-13 on Thursday to advance to the Fuzhou China Open quarter-finals.

The No. 6 seeds mixed pair will take on second-seeded Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping of China on Friday.

Another Malaysian mixed pair, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai also booked a spot in the final eight after defeating Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari of Indonesia 23-21, 21-13. Goh/Lai will play No. 3 seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand next.

In men’s doubles, Malaysia’s Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik pulled off an upset to down No. 5 seeds Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia 13-21, 21-18, 21-16. Chia/Soh will face another Indonesian pair, No. 2 seeds Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan held off a spirited challenge from Ou Xuan Yi/Zhang Nan of China, as the Indonesian pair was pushed to the limit before escaping the second round match with 11-21, 21-18, 30-29 in 64 minutes.
