Jakarta: Indonesia’s Asian Games badminton medalists including Jonatan Christie (men’s singles gold medalist), Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (men’s doubles gold medalists), Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (men’s singles bronze medalist), Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto (men’s doubles silver medalists) each received a TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 watch at TAG Heuer’s Senayan City shop last Thursday.
The Time International president and CEO Irwan Danny Mussry presented them with the watches.
“Congratulations to the Indonesian badminton team for their win at the 2018 Asian Games,” said Irwan Danny Mussry. “We are very proud to present the TAG Heuer watches for their brilliant performances that will inspire many youths to work hard and pursue their dreams. Their achievements signify the excellency of Indonesian athletes and they are the pride of the Indonesian people.”
Indonesian badminton fans went crazy when the good looking Jonatan Christie beat Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan 21-18, 20-22, 21-15 in the men’s singles final. He celebrated the victory by ripping off his white shirt, then circled the court shaking his right fist, gesturing with both hands for more applause.
Indonesia also won men’s doubles with two Indonesian teams facing each other in the final. Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo defeated countrymen Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ardianto 13-21, 21-18, 24-22.
Although Anthony Sinisuka Ginting only took home the bronze medal in men’s singles, but the fact that he was able to oust two favorites – Japan’s reigning world champion Kento Momota in second round and China’s Chen Long in the quarter-finals before losing to Chou Tien Chen in the semi-final, proved that he too could be a future star in badminton.
