Beijing: In a statement issued by Lin Dan on his social media site Monday, the two-time Olympic champion said he and 6 other players were allegedly owed all salaries by their team – Guangzhou Yueyu team during the 2016-2017 Chinese Badminton Super League (CBSL), and they are now exploring legal options to collect the outstanding payment.
The statement pointed out that in early 2016, Mr. Gao Jun and Mr. Fu Xun invited seven Chinese players (including Lin Dan) to join the Guangzhou YueYu badminton club, getting ready to participate in the CBSL. Both players and the team management then entered into a contract, where the seven players would represent the club during the 2016 – 2017 China Badminton Club League, as well as participating in other promotional activities arranged by the club.
Under the contract, the club should pay the players before or during the competition, or based on how many matches the players played. In order to not cause negative effect on team morale, players who has not been paid continued to play for the club during the 2016-2017 CBSL season. However, the club kept delaying on promise of the salary payment to the players and the situation has just gotten frustrated and disappointed.
Lin Dan urged the Guangzhou Badminton Club to quickly pay what was owed. Otherwise, the players will explore all legal avenues to ensure the players are paid.
