The state of Penang presents Lee Chong Wei with All-time Athlete Award

Accompanied by his wife Wong Mew Choo, Lee Chong Wei received the award with immense pride.

“I am extremely grateful for the award. This is the first time I am recognized with the award which will motivate me to stay active and keep moving forward,” said Lee.

The Malaysian badminton superstar however still “keeping the door open” for his decision about participating at Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“I am not going to promise whether or not I will compete in the Tokyo Olympics. But the award tonight really fires my spirit and gets me going again,” added Lee.

Lee also expressed his desire to play in the Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia next year.

Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei also took home the check of RM3,000 by winning the 2016 State Sportsman of the Year Award at the ceremony.

Lee Chong Wei was also announced as the winner of the 2016 TYT Premier Award.
