Changzhou: A resilient Tian Houwei showed he is one of the best men’s singles player in China as he overhauled countryman and third seed Qiao Bin 21-15, 15-21, 21-16 to claim the China Masters men’s singles title on Sunday.
After the victory, Tian improved his career head-to-head meeting against Qiao Bin to 1-2.
In an all-Japanese women’s singles final, No. 2 seeds Aya Ohori also was made to work before emerged victorious against fifth seed Saena Kawakami 21-9, 9-21, 21-18 in a hard-fought contest to win the 2017 China Masters.
Ohori levelled her head-to-head record against Kawakami to 1-1 after her victory on Sunday. Ohori lost to Kawakami at the Japan Open qualifying in 2015.
As expected, men’s doubles No. 1 seed Chen Hung Ling/Wang Chi-Lin comfortably chalked up a straight sets 21-14, 21-6 victory over fifth seeds Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko of Japan in just 30 minutes to take home the men’s doubles title.
Unseeded women’s doubles pair Bao Yixin/Yu Xiaohan however pulled off an upset to defeat No. 4 seed Huang Yaqiong/Tang Jinhua 8-21, 21-14, 21-17 in 72 minutes to win their first international title since they were paired together early this year. Bao/Yu extended their career head-to-head record against Huang/Tang to 2-0 after they have beaten the same pair in the quarter-finals at the 2017 Malaysia Open.
China took home their third and last title of the day when No. 5 seeds Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping overcame Chinese Taipei’s No. 4 seeds Liao Min Chun/Chen Hsiao Huan 21-14, 21-10 in the mixed doubles final.
