Despite dropping the second set, Gideon/Sukamuljo fought back to wrap up the match against Fu/Zheng 21-14, 14-21, 21-12 in 52 minutes. Malaysia Open was the third Superseries title for the Indonesian pair in one month.

“After claiming the All-England and India Open title, we are so glad to be able to win another Superseries title again here at Malaysia Open,” said Gideon.

“We didn’t expect to win the Malaysia Open, because we already extremely exhausted coming into the tournament,” added Gideon.

Meanwhile, the mixed doubles title went to world number one pair Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen who defeated compatriots Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong 21-15, 21-18 in an all-Chinese final, avenging their defeat to the same pair in the India Open final last Sunday.

Japanese unseeded women’s doubles pair Fukushima Yuki/Hirota Sayaka’s fairy-tale run at Malaysia Open ended on a high note when as they rallied from a set down to dispatch Huang Yaqiong/Tang Jinhua of China 21-17, 18-21, 21-12 in 72 minutes to take home the women’s doubles crown.
