Kuching: Less than a month after Lee Chong Wei claimed his fourth All England in Birmingham, the Malaysian badminton superstar continued his stellar form in the Malaysia Open quarter-finals.
The No. 1 seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia breezed past young South Korean Jeon Hyeok Jin in straight sets at the Perpaduan Stadium in Petra Jaya on Friday to advance to the Malaysia Open semi-final.
Lee needed only 45 minutes to beat the 21-year-old 21-11, 21-14.
“Jeon Hyeok Jin played very fast and he is a lot younger than me. I am glad I was able to beat him,” said Lee in an interview after the match.
Lee also told reporters that he will try to enjoy his semi-final match on Saturday.
“I would like to win my 12th Malaysia Open title, and hope that nobody can break my record,” added Lee.
With the absence of Chen Long after the Olympic champion withdrew from the tournament with a right wrist injury, Lee will be playing Hong Kong’s Vincent Wong Wing Ki in the semi-final.
A showdown between Lee and his nemesis Lin Dan in the Malaysia Open final is still on the cards.
The two-time Olympic champion and No. 7 seed Lin Dan of China was forced to work hard to seal his progression through to last four, roaring back from a set down to beat Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 21-15, 14-21, 21-9 in the quarter-finals. Lin is set to meet No. 5 seed Son Wan Ho of South Korea in the semi-final who overcame Ajay Jayaram of India 21-18, 21-14 on Friday.
