Kuala Lumpur: A “special task force” that was established by the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) last month aimed at helping World No. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei win his first World Championships title of his career is now in full swing.
Deputy President of BAM – Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria told reporters that the “special project” consists of both of Lee Chong Wei’s coaches including Hendrawan, Tey Seu Bock, and five other younger shuttlers – Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Chong Yee Han, Soong Joo Ven, Soo Teck Zhi and Lim Chi Wing that are serving as Lee’s sparring partners.
“Chong Wei and his coaches understand their responsibilities clearly,” said Norza.
“BAM is committed to provide complete support to Chong Wei for his preparation for the World Championships in Scotland this coming August,” added Norza.
Hendrawan will be the head of the project, assisted by Tey Seu Bock. BAM’s technical director Morten Frost will not be involved in the day to day operation of this project.
The project will tentatively last until the world meet, and Norza also urged those young Malaysian shuttlers to take full advantage of improving themselves by training together with Lee.
