Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) unveiled a special “operations task force” to help Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei to achieve his dream of winning the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, from August 21st to August 27th.
BAM’s deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria who also served as the chairman of the Coaching and Training (C&T) committee, told reporters that the C&T members have agreed to reorganize the men’s singles department.
“Hendrawan will lead the special project together with Tey Seu Bock,” said Norza.
“Five players including Chong Yee Han, Lim Chi Wing, Soong Joo Ven, Soo Teck Zhi and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin will be brought into the project with Chong Wei,” added Norza.
As the head coach of the special task force, Hendrawan will be automatically enrolled as member of the C&T and will report directly to the C&T chairman.
Norza also pointed out that the special group would ensure young players will be given the opportunity to train and learn from Lee Chong Wei, and eventually could become Lee’s successor in the future.
BAM’s technical director Morten Frost who has become embroiled in a feud with Lee Chong Wei over the past few weeks, told reporters he welcomed the idea since it was actually part of his original plan.
“Overall, I think this is a good idea, and it’s actually my own proposal with slight modifications from BAM,” said Frost.
