Kuala Lumpur: Badminton fans who are expecting the 38th meeting between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan at 2017 All England will have to keep waiting as the World No. 1 men’s singles Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia has withdrawn from this year’s All England on Monday.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) men’s singles coach Hendrawan has confirmed that the Malaysian badminton superstar tore his left Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) during a training session that was held at the newly built badminton academy.
It was reported that Lee slipped and fell on the brand new badminton mat while sparring with backup shuttler R. Satheishtharan and Hendrawan was clearly disappointed with the incident.
“Chong Wei was excited to kick off the new season after Chinese New Year, unfortunately he is now injured,” said Hendrawan.
“Injury is one of our major concerns especially at this age. He may need 3 to 6 weeks to recover, therefore, he will not be competing at the All England,” added Hendrawan.
