Kuala Lumpur: Despite his busy and full schedule, World No. 1 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei made a guest appearance in a cooking show that was aired in China last Saturday.Lee Chong Wei enjoying some foods during the show.

During the show, the host asked Lee what his extra special or most-outrageous dining experience was, Lee told the host that he once drove 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur all the way to his hometown in Penang just to eat “Char kway teow”.

Char kway teow, literally “stir-fried ricecake strips”, is a popular noodle dish in Malaysia, and Singapore. The dish is considered a national favorite in Malaysia and Singapore.

“One day, after our training, I wanted to do something spontaneous, so I called up my friend to drive 3 hours back to my hometown in Penang just to eat the Penang Char kway teow,” said Lee.Picture of Penang Char Kway Teow.

“After that, we drove another 3 hours back to Kuala Lumpur the same day,” added Lee.

He also revealed that Malaysian badminton players are prohibited from eating foods that are not prepared by their team nutritionist when they are competing internationally.

“Our nutritionist would usually prepare our food when we are competing in foreign countries. The nutritionist also ensured that the food we are served was stored and prepared in a safe manner,” said Lee.

“However, we are allowed to eat anything we want when we arrive in Malaysia.”

According to Chinese media, Lin Dan also attended the show together with Lee Chong Wei. However, the director has decided to re-edit and to remove Lin Dan from the show completely shortly after his cheating scandal broke.
