Bitburger: Malaysia’s World No. 13 mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing got past their opponents in the first and second round of Bitburger Open to cruise into the Bitburger Open quarter-finals on Thursday.Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing are hoping to do well at Bitburger Open. Tan/Lai saw off Wang Chi-Lin/Chiang Kai-Hsin of Taiwan 21-13, 21-18 in their opener before overcoming the Malaysia and India pair Yogendran Khrishnan/Prajakta Sawant 21-15, 21-11 in 31 minutes.

Tan/Lai are set to play Marvin Emil Seidel/Birgit Michels of Germany on Friday.

In the men’s doubles second round, Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi were able to dispatch Bjarne Geiss/Fabian Holzer 21-19, 21-11 to make the quarter-finals. They will play World No. 64 Huang Kaixiang/Wang Yilyu of China next.

Malaysia’s men’s singles player Goh Giap Chin however went down to Fabian Roth of Germany after losing a hard fought 3-set thriller 15-21, 22-20, 19-21 in 49 minutes.

China’s Shi Yuqi stayed on course for the Bitburger men’s singles title after battled past Kai Schaefer of Germany 22-20, 21-17. The No. 4 seed Shi will take on No. 5 seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia for a spot in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, women’s singles No. 1 seed He Bingjiao demolished Gadde Ruthvika Shivani of India 21-16, 21-13 to set up a meeting with Mette Poulsen of Denmark in the quarter-finals.
