Chong got off to a good start to dispatch Denmark shuttler Emil Holst 21-16, 21-19 in the first match on Tuesday. He then battled past World No. 77 Scott Evans of Ireland in the second qualifying match to move into the main draw.

However, a tough draw awaits Chong Wei Feng in the first round of main draw with a collision against eighth seed, Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s World No. 16 mixed doubles pair of Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing raced through their opener against Ben Lane/Jessica Pugh of England by beating the England pair 21-9, 21-16 in just 30 minutes.

Tan/Lai are set to take on No. 2 seeds Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto of Indonesia next. Jordan/Susanto had to work extra hard on Tuesday to move past brother and sister pair from Ireland – Sam Magee/Chloe Magee in the mixed doubles first round.
