Men’s singles No. 8 seed Kidambi Srikanth couldn’t hold off a late surge from rival Hong Kong’s Vincent Wong Wing Ki in the decider, allowing the Hong Kong shuttler to reel off 6 points coming from 16-17 to clinch the victory with 21-10, 22-24, 21-17 in 55 minutes.

Meanwhile, women’s singles No. 8 seed Sun Yu of China and last week’s Japan Open runner-up was defeated by Korean shuttler Lee Jang Mi 21-18, 21-14 in 46 minutes.

Last week’s Japan Open men’s singles runner-up Jan O Jorgensen kicked off his bid for the Korea Open title by surviving a commendable effort from Sony Dwi Kuncoro 23-21, 21-13 in 38 minutes.

On the women’s side, No. 3 seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and Korea’s No. 5 seed Sung Ji Hyun of Korea both got their Korea Open campaigns off to a good start. Intanon saw off Taiwan’s Hsu Ya Ching 21-13, 21-12 in 32 minutes while Sung Ji Hyun dispatched Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi 21-14, 21-14.
