Beijing: Last week, former China national team badminton player Gong Weijie hinted at his social media page that the 2008 World Junior Champion and current World No. 18 men’s singles player Wang Zhengming may be retiring from badminton.
Gong was referring to a message posted by Wang Zhengming on a social media platform in China saying: “Life is not all about badminton. Still vaguely remember yourself performing at your peak, it’s so hard to say goodbye…”
After seeing Gong’s post, Wang’s fans quickly rallied around him and showed their support on the social media.
Then, sometime on Saturday, Wang renewed his social media post trying to calm his fans down with the following post:
“I’ve been asked a lot recently whether or not I am retiring from badminton, thank you all for your concern. And my answer is, I have not retired yet.”
Although Wang Zhengming won the World Junior Championships in 2008, he has been having difficulties stepping up to the plate in the senior level, and has been living in the shadows of Lin Dan and Chen Long throughout his whole career.
